About Us

Dr. Daniel Klein

LL.M. Tulane University

Daniel Klein is an international legal expert with a focus on environmental law, climate policy and governance and multilateral negotiations. From 2008 to 2019, he supported the international climate conferences at the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC) in Bonn, Germany, including in the central advisory team on the Paris Agreement and as a legal advisor. Prior to that, he worked for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and at the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. 

Daniel obtained his law degree at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in International and European Environmental Law, from the same University, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International and Comparative Law from Tulane Law School, New Orleans, U.S.A. 

Dr. Pia Carazo

LL.M. Heidelberg University

Pía Carazo is a Costa Rican lawyer with 20 years of experience in national, international and comparative law. She is an expert on human rights and sustainable development and a faculty member of the Department of International Law at the University for Peace in San José, Costa Rica. She has developed and coordinated several joint diploma programs, including on energy, climate change, sustainable development and human rights. She has also worked several years as a research fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. 

Pía obtained her degree in law from the University of Costa Rica. She acquired a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Heidelberg and a Ph.D. in Human Rights Law from the University of Göttingen, Germany. She also works as a free artist and arts teacher in Bonn, Germany.

Daniel Klein and Pía Carazo are co-editors and contributing authors of ‘The Paris Agreement – Analysis and Commentary’ (OUP 2017), as well as of several other books and articles, and contribute regularly to international conferences as keynote speakers, presenters and panellists. They work primarily in English, Spanish and German.
